Snowman/Rose Ornament Pattern

I made several of these as gifts for people this year. Remember, no matter how cold the winter, there are roses on the other side.

You will need to know a bit of embroidery/plastic canvas stitchery for this one. The snowmen shapes were cut from 7-count plastic canvas. Get a cheap, tough yarn for this work- it’s not for wearing, it’s for decoration!

Snowman Pattern

This is a picture of my first one, just before the embroidery thread stitches. Once you get the hang of them, they’re very quick to make!

I used red for the roses, a camouflage yarn for the stem (thus, the changing colors), dark green for the leaves, a reddish brown for the dirt, and a jade green for the sky. The snowman is white with a gold nose. I never reused that stitch pattern for the fill on the snowman piece, though- it ate one of my black French knots! The pattern you use for the white background will nudge the thinner embroidery thread one way or another when you put in your knots.

Finish with a thin cloth ribbon tied in a lark’s head knot through the top center hole, or just hang with a wire ornament hanger.
